Entry for July 25, 2007

One of the joys of having someone share your home, either as a renter or some other arrangement, is when something goes wrong, they can 1) absolve themselves of any financial responsibility and 2) can say dopey things like "it must not have been very good, it broke". So it is with a family member that rents a room from us (while we collect 'rent', we also provide meals, laundry and other stuff...he pays so he does get tagged as a free loader).

So our garage door gets all fouled up, and he tries to fix it and only makes it worse; I try to help, and further foul it up. Now I have to call in the professionals, and he says" well, it is old" 10 years isn't old for a house in my book. But perhaps some of the parts are getting worn...anyway, another expense for me Now where did I put the yellow pages???

My job concerns continue, as it has now become subject to office internal politics. My boss submitted a personnel request to create 3 new positions in our unit, and change mine from a limited term contract to a full time position, based upon a study the company paid consultants to do; somehow the budget office decided to drop a position, move me to one of the new positions, and down grade the other. Now there is all sorts of controversy and I have been asked to provide a lot of information to the Directors special advisor. I hope this works out so I don't have to leave next year. In the background is runors they want to cut 6,000 positions...bad time to be looking to create positions...
