I am reminded of aging every morning when I wash my face from a night of sleep. Staring into the image in the mirror, I see me, and more often than not, I see attributes of my parents. In particular since turning 55, I see my mom at that age more and more.
My doctor has told me to lose weight (don’t they always?) and yet I would be dishonest to say I couldn’t stand to drop some excess baggage…
Thankfully, I resisted getting married at 18 or 19 or 20 and waited until I finished college and had gone out in the world a bit. My honey and I are celebrating our 30th year together, a milestone both of us are happy to see, considering we both had dismal first marriages.
Yet we are constantly made aware of the uncertainty in our lives.
The news breaks, and then suddenly we are cognizant that fanatics want us all dead, or that the earth has such power stored away that when unleashed it can destroy our communities in seconds.
We are constantly peppered with news about how screwed we are, our air is poisoned, as are the oceans, and the land under our feet. How many people today still spread used motor oil on their dirt roads to keep the dust down?
Now I have important chores to do, like take the dog out before bed.
I wonder? How many people have to physically go outside with the dog before it will go out? Mine is like that…I think its some sort of dog mind trick…clever girl J
Don't look in the mirror? I am seeing glimpses of my father.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on your marriage. That is a worthy project, not always easy.
As for the world situation, the only solution is individual change which will add up to collective change with time.
Don't have a dog.
There is no way I would live with a dog in the house. Ugh! With that in mind, I am headed out today to help clean a flat where the person had animals; a cat for sure and maybe a dog as well. The carpet had to be replaced, saturated with urine and turds, and the bathrooms are full of litter and cat turds. Nasty place.
ReplyDeleteI truly pissed off a woman on Multiply that perhaps the problems with her breathing was coming from the dog and cat she kept in her house. Cat and dog hair gets everywhere, even in a clean house. People with dogs and cats in their house eats dog and cat hair; we have seen the hair everywhere, even in the refrigerator which is a sealed unit. It floats around in the air and lands in your food even if you don't think it does.
Hmmmmmm............
ReplyDeleteI attended the funeral of my last remaining grandparents in December, my Dad's mother. I realized that I look just like my Dad and his brother, which is sad as I never thought either of them were anything to look at. I cannot do anything about that.
As for weight.....As an adult I have weighed as much as 211 and as little as 167.......I am about 205 now (74" tall). I will be 50 in September, so I guess I will just have to live with it as I am not likely to get off of my ass and do anything about it anytime soon.
Janet and I have been married for 3 years. She was married to her late husband for 15, and I was married to my first wife for 20. we are still piecing our lives together, but we are very happy
Interestingly....it is exactly BECAUSE the earth can do what the earth is going to do that I don't give a crap about our oceans or our air or our land, or what ever the next raison d etre of the left wing eco loons might be (I do, however, recycle).
My wife wanted the dog, a mini-Dacshund who is a rescue. She has had it for four days....last night was my first sleepless night....she can walk the dog.
