I have a love--hate relationship with their software...some of it is really good, then they go stupid in an effort to improve it...like their office products...
Bloatware. Microsoft has to keep milking the cash cow. Therefore, they have to keep coming out with newer versions; therefore, they have to keep adding worthless features that no one wants. Then they convince people they need to upgrade. Let's take Word as an example. Most people just use it has a word processor, they don't need it to be a bloody spreadsheet as well. Personally, Word Pro (from Lotus originally, sold to IBM who just sits on the product) is a much better word processor with much easier "ease of use" than Word. I once sent IBM a letter trying to get them to give Lotus Smartsuite to the open source community so they could port it to Linux. Smartsuite on Linux would be a real Microsoft killer on the desktop. I could see corporations switching to it in droves.
I am advocating the organization i work for to migrate to Open Office or something else. Microsoft is so big that they are the target of most malware, and they build stuff with vulnerabilities up the wazoo...and i know what you are saying, about bloatware. One of the sypidest things lately was the fact that their security suite OneCare wouldnt run on Vista...do you think they should have fixed that little problem before they pushed Vista out ??
I avoid all things Microcrap er, Microsoft as much as possible.
