First, let me point out that not all hotels are the same. DUH!!!!!!!!
When we stayed on the coast, and in Kennewick, we hardly heard anyone when in our room, even though there were people in rooms next to us and over ours. This particular all suites inn has paper thin walls, especially when the people next room over have a TV against the wall, which happens to be the wall your head board is against. Tip for travelers- be nice, DON'T turn your friggin TV to a nice loud volume at 4:22 AM, OK? Some people near you might want to sleep in to say, 5:30 or something...
After we did get it together, we headed to Lynden, which was disappointing, then went over to the coast, managed to head the wrong way and ended up in Blaine. So we wandered thru Blaine to the Peace Arch Park, which was empty.
I wandered down a path to photograph whatever, and decided to photo the actual border as I did, my dog wandered , well, away from me, so i guess technically she's an international dog now...
I thought it interesting, because coming from Canada to US, traffic was lined up, and i could see Customs searching peoples cars, just like they do on the Mexico California border; going US to Canada, they were practically waving people thru(in photo cars leaving Canada are backed up, into Canada
What was real interesting to me, was if they are that determined to protect our border, why is it in the park, and apparently for miles along the border, this is our border control
The houses in the background are in Canada
I walked up to the sign, over to the street, took the picture and came back...no fences, no barriers, nothing.
From here we drove to Birch Bay State Park, and then back to Bellingham via back roads, down (honest) Chuckanut Drive, where i took a couple of pix of San Juan Islands
Next we headed to La Conner WA
We ate at the local brewery, and then when to
Sedro Woolley, WA, and up the highway there to Lake Whatcom...it is beautiful, and we saw a rainbow as the sun came out
We finished the day browsing at an outlet mall (this state has more than any place I've been), where I got some nice Brazilian shoes and a couple of tops made in Cambodia...what ever happened to Made in USA??
That's a topic in an of itself, for when I'm NOT on vacation...
