Iran

May 2009 -  Iran says it has successfully test launched a mid-range surface-to-surface missile, state media have reported.

President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said the Sajjil-2 missile with a range of 2,000km (1,240 miles), used "advanced technology" and had landed on target.

The US confirmed the launch had taken place, and reiterated that President Barack Obama was "concerned" about Iran's missile development.

Sept 25, 2009  Pressure mounted on Iran yesterday to halt its nuclear program as world leaders at the United Nations warned of the threat posed by Tehran to a global consensus on disarmament.

Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has said a newly revealed nuclear enrichment plant is "perfectly legal", after criticism from world leaders including US President Barack Obama and French leader Nicolas Sarkozy.

The next day, Iran  tested two short-range missiles during a military exercise, Iranian state television reports.

See a pattern here?

  2. Iran has a right to arm itself, just as the US has a right to arm itself. Iran has a right to nuclear power generators just as the US has the right to nuclear power generators, and if the US is going to have a huge stockpile of nuclear weapons, then Iran has a right as well. Bully tactics against other nations do not work, they just make the other nations angry that the big bully is trying to push them around. Bush destroyed several decades of diplomacy in a short time, and early on, it appeared Clinton was carrying in his footsteps.

We know that Iran must be worried; the US went into a neighbouring country to Iran and destroyed the country, and destroyed the government, a government that gave more rights to the people than any other middle eastern country, and executed the country's leader. The war in Iraq was unjustified, it was nothing more than brutal aggression on the part of the US and the US should have received serious sanctions against them by the UN. Is it no wonder than Iran is nervous that the next target will be them?

  4. You forget to mention Afghanistan to the east, and six or eight World Class Navies just outside of the Straits of Hormuz fully prepared to impose a blockade. Yep, it's gonna happen and there are few nations that would complain, least of all the Arab Nations that are quietly going about the business of building their own Nuclear Energy Sites....when I say 'quietly', I mean you don't hear many Arab Nations condemning Israel lately.

  5. WTF?
You honestly think Iraq was better under Saddam...you must get a different news than me, because I distinctly remember leading up to the war numerous discussions in the UN about the invasion...we know now there were no WMD, but at the time that was debatable..what was not debatable was that it was a brutal thuggish regime....I know, I know, now start saying about that doesn't justify what we did. You know what? You are probably right. But we broke it, and are trying to fix it. End of story.
For better or worse, the USA does what is in our best interest, and when talk is done, we have a big stick we thump on you with. Its called military force. When Europe is finally taken over and becomes the European Islamic Republic, people will wonder why America didn't do more...it will be our fault, right?
Iran is working towards building nuclear weapons, already has the delivery means, and will pose a threat to all within reach. Israel is first on the list, then probably Saudi Arabia, and any other state that is not following the tenets of Iran's version of Islam.

I wonder how staunch a ally the Russians would be when Iran hands over a nuke to the Chechen's?
