Awoke to a beautiful sunny day, a light breeze bringing the air temp down from 50 to feel like 45.
After checking the road status, opted to leave Kennewick and head west, without the side trip to Leavenworth. The pass was the only one not getting snow at the time, and instead encountered the kind of wind driven heavy rain that makes windsheild wipers worthless.
Travelling into the Seattle area at noon, we thought there wouldn't be a lot of traffic, but as a precaution we took I-405 to bypass downtown and head north...what a miscalculation! Our experience on traffic is drawn from trips (only when required!) to the San francisco area or (dread) Los Angeles...so Seattle should be no big deal...wrong. Seattle has pretty awful traffic. And they are building on to the already huge freeway. It was 5 lanes on each side until it merged with another highway, then HB said he thought it was 8 lanes on each side, although 2 were carpool/bus lanes. And people wonder why i hate living in a city..
We ate at a favorite local place in bellingham, and went back to the hotel...tired.
Tomorrow we are going to check out Lynden, a "dutch" town north of here, then go to the border area, over to Birch bay, and who knows..
Our plan so far is that when we leave for home Friday, we are going to Whidbey Island, then taking a ferry to the other side and drive down the kitsap penisula rather than drive through Seattle and Tacoma on a workday during morning commute..
