Labor Day 2010

Dear Mr. President and Congress-

How about honoring Labor Day by putting in place the conditions for 14.9 million Americans to have a job..?

You seem to like conferences, how about a business roundtable to discuss what it will take to get things going...NOW?

Thank you

  1. I was hoping you would expand more on what you feel is needed to return jobs to the US.

  2. I'm thinking that organized labor should be at that table.

  6. That's correct Kimberly, roads, ditches, rail-roads, airports and a lot of other jobs that involve picks and shovels. Sad really, all those college dollars going to waste for so many who opted out of manual labor so many years ago. Tragic really, such a large part of a nation that so loved pushing pencils out there shoulder to shoulder with their intellectual lesser citizens breaking a sweat miles from the nearest bottled water dispenser.

Luckily, here in Illinois the minimum wage has gone up to whopping $8.25/hr ( and the GOP candidate for Governor has been screaming bloody murder about that for weeks ) so with a few over-time hours ( say 20/week ) folks can expect to bring home nearly $400/week! Which is almost enough to get a trailer next to the tracks they're working on so they can watch those few and fortunate go whizzing by on the new high-speed-rail system your tax dollars paid for.

No biggy, that's pretty much how it's been around here for the last thirty years ( since all the pencil pushers shut down the mines and manufacturers that supported them and where the foundation of our economy ). Isn't that what the Right to Work for less Laws where all about? Allowing Labor to adjust to a dynamic, market driven and open Economy?

But still, it did sound better when we first heard giving tax breaks to the wealthy was going to trickle down.

Suggestion, everyone get a hold of some sturdy work gloves and boots. We have a Nation to build!

  7. The New Deal II. Yes, it did not work the first time around, but why not give it one more try.
