Why does Obama hate Britain?

I’m not very frugal, but even I know that if I were entertaining someone important from another country (one that has been our nation’s ally through thick and thin for decades), I would show them gracious hospitality, which costs nothing. In our long national history, British (and other) heads of state are nearly automatically granted a ceremonial joint news conference, with national flags and opportunity to speak on important issues. It is something expected, even Bush knew that. Instead our staunchest ally's leader is treated to a casual sit down in the White House with Obama. Snub number 1

Snub 2 came when the PM gave a symbolic set of gifts to Mr. Obama, and Mrs. Brown gave Mrs. Obama a set of gifts for the Obama children. A bit of thought had clearly gone into choosing them: Top Shop dresses (with matching necklaces) and a selection of books by British authors. Lovely.

What to give in return? A carefully thought-out gift or two to give the foreign visitor(s) would also be appropriate. It wouldn’t have to cost a fortune (we’re all on a budget these days, right?), but should reflect respect and the cherished relationship between the two nations and show that I did more than pop on down at the last minute to the White House gift shop. But that appear (at least in the British press0 to be exactly what was given in return, two Marine One model helicopters. Geez, nice priced at $15 each according to the White house gift shop, this is really the gift that shows deep thought…Sigh.

Not so with our President and First Lady this past week with the United Kingdom’s visiting PM Gordon Brown and his wife Sarah. I’m ashamed to say, Americans are beginning to look much like the thoughtless, selfish oafs much of the world accuses us of being. The criticisms and embarrassments are all over the blogosphere.

Especial the British press, referring to this as Giftgate… Snub the Brits - Embarrassing “Change” We Can Count on in Obama’s White House
