I am writing this after arriving home from a day of work, wondering about the economy, politics, a lot of things. As I put my purse on the dresser, and put away my laptop tote, I look at the pictures hanging in the hallway-
· A black and white photo of my Honey and his radio operator in some town, his face hidden by his fist as he holds the handset, his radio operator staring at him as they crouch together behind a wall, a bullet riddled burned car near them..
· My dad in his dress blues, and another with him and his platoon in Korea
· My brother in law in his Army greens
· My cousin, rifle slung across his chest, handing over the keys to a school in Iraq, which was destroyed by “insurgents” …
I turn on the computer to check email, and see a message pop up, “check out the troopathon…” I watch for a while, wondering what most people are doing, since the troopathon thing says there are currently 3600 viewers…3600 out of a country of 300 million…
The moderators say the troopathon is raising money to send care packages to our troops…and I wonder what they are doing. The troops, I wonder what they are doing right now? Are they sleeping, eating, and watching videos from home? Or are they sweltering in the heat, locked in combat with the enemy? Probably both.
I give to the troopathon. And every month, I give to Wounded Warrior, and a lot of other charities via salary donation thru work…
It’s not about the politics, it’s about the people. These people are willing to do this, to fight for us. I know people think the wars we are in are stupid, pointless, cost too much, yada yada yada….that kind of talk don’t fly in our house.
My little one does fundraising for one of the groups that sends Care Packages. She's sold a ton of flags and buttons over the last three months.
