Discussing his approach to nuclear security the day before formally releasing his new strategy, Mr. Obama described his policy as part of a broader effort to edge the world toward making nuclear weapons obsolete, and to create incentives for countries to give up any nuclear ambitions. To set an example, the new strategy renounces the development of any new nuclear weapons, overruling the initial position of his own defense secretary.
It eliminates much of the ambiguity that has deliberately existed in American nuclear policy since the opening days of the cold war. For the first time, the
So much for the element of surprise! (Gee, why not just go ahead and map out a potential enemy's attack strategy and point out just how far to go in different types of depredations before we gets our lil' ol' feelings hurt and strike back.)
ReplyDeleteThere are no winners in a nuclear war. Bush undid decades of hard work, and Obama is not doing very well himself. China is a communist country with nuclear weapons, but since they are our bestest buddy, that is OK, they wouldn't do anything to us. I am waiting to see when China will start shooting citizens again that are protesting; however, I am moving off the subject.
ReplyDeleteNo winners in nuclear war is the core of the policy called Mutually Assured Destruction (MAD), which was what the US and USSR had over each other in the Cold War...and like they keep saying in the news cycles, the US has used the threat of tactical or strategic nukes that to dissuade nation states from acting against us militarily.
ReplyDeleteChina has nukes, N Korea has nukes, Pakistan has nukes, India has nukes, Brazil is rumored to have nukes, Israel is unconfirmed to have nukes, and on and on.
Apparently when Saddam was indicating he might use chemicals against the forces facing him in our invasion of Iraq, Secretary of State Baker told them using chemicals weapons on our troops would open the door for us to retaliate with nuclear weapons. In that same scenario, Obama would hold that option off the table, and rely on America's overwhelming use of conventional weapons. If this is the road to our national security, I guess we will unilaterally disarm, and hope for the best.
Lets put our navy in port, bring home all the troops from everywhere, including not allowing our Air Force to fly outside the USA...that will show the world we mean it!
sorry about the mini-rant, but this administration shortsighted ill thought policies are really fodder for the title Stupidest American Government ever...
